While Basic Search with Google displays many results, Advanced Search with Google allows you to broaden or narrow the searching results. To utilize this Google's function, click Advance search on the right of the Google home page.

- Users can find results in different ways:
+ All the word
+ Exact phrase
+ At least one of the words
+ Without the word
- Select the language of the results
- Select the format of the sources (doc., PDF, html ...)
- Select the publication date of the sources

Moreover, Subject list search narrows the results within the selected subject, which is more convenient for users than Google search that provides all results related to the selected keyword.

You can use the following criteria to assess the information you have retrieved.
Authority and accuracy
Is the authority mentioned? Is there any proof of authority?
Evaluating networked electronic resources, especially their authority and accuracy, is very important if a patron uses them for teaching and doing research.
Publication date
When was the material or document published? If they were published over 5 years ago, the information they provide is not relevant or enough. Check whether the information is usually updated or not.
Purpose
What is the purpose of the information? Who is its audience?
Is the information used to announce anything, persuade anybody, report or express ideas?
What is the idea of the author? Is the author's idea related to politics, racism or religion?

Does the website include the information you want?
Are the details enough?
- Is the topic generalized?
- Is the material understandable and scientific?
References, citations, comments
Is the content of the material studied by the author himself or gathered from others creators?
Does the material cite its references? |
